FREE SKATE
Each Free Skate level is comprised of a variety of progressive skating skills, transitions, spins, and jumps -- all of which build on the previous skill, providing skaters a strong foundation of all elements. These levels will be taught in a positive and interactive group format. Instructors will focus on quality and mastery of skills.
Free Skate 1
- Skating Skills:
- Forward power stroking (clockwise and counterclockwise)
- Basic forward outside and forward inside consecutive edges (4-6)
- Spins:
- Upright spin, entry from back crossovers (minimum 4-6 revolutions)
- Jumps:
- Bonus skill: Waltz jump-side to hop-waltz jump sequence or waltz jump-ballet jump-top loop sequence
Free Skate 2
- Skating Skills:
- Alternating forward outside and inside spirals on a continuous axis (two sets)
- Basic backward outside and forward inside consecutive edges (4-6)
- Backward inside three-turns (right and left)
- Spins:
- Beginning back spin (up to two revolutions)
- Jumps:
- Bonus skill: Variation of a forward spiral, skater's choice
Free Skate 3
- Skating Skills:
- Alternating backward crossovers to basic outside edges (4 sets)
- Alternating Mohawk/crossover sequence (right to left and left to right)
- Spins:
- Advanced back spin with free foot in crossed leg position (minimum three revolutions)
- Jumps:
- Loop jump
- Waltz jump-toe loop or Salchow-toe loop combination
- Bonus skill: Toe step sequence (skater's choice) using a variety of toe steps
Free Skate 4
- Skating Skills:
- Forward power three-turns (right and left) -- three sets each
- Waltz eight (clockwise and counterclockwise)
- Spins:
- Forward upright spin to backward upright spin (3 revolutions each foot)
- Sit spin (minimum 3 revolutions)
- Jumps:
- Flip jump
- Waltz jump, half-loop, salchow jump
- Bonus skill: Split jump, stag jump, or split falling leaf
Free Skate 5/6
- Skating Skills:
- Forward/backward power pulls
- Five-step Mohawk sequence (clockwise and counterclockwise)
- Spins:
- Camel spin (minimum three revolutions)
- Attitude/Beginning layback spin
- Jumps:
- Waltz jump-loop jump combination
- Lutz jump
- Beginning axel jump

- Moves in the field
- Spins:
- Backsit spin
- Spin variations
- Jumps:
- Split falling leaf/split jump
- Axel jump
- Beginning double salchow
